The Kelly Picnic – Good enough to eat?

The Kelly Picnic – Good enough to eat?

I was researching material for our Instagram feed recently – Lilac Blue London – and came across these fabulous images from an Hermes campaign created to celebrate their new Kelly Picnic. The Limited Edition Kelly Picnic, a typically quirky Hermes design is, if you are unfamiliar with it, a twist on the traditional picnic hamper.  The body of the bag is made from woven wicker whilst the flap is made from Barenia leather; the Palladium hardware and closure is the same as that of any Kelly.  Although I don’t recommend you actually use it as a picnic basket, it’s still a great bag and adds a little fun to a summery outfit – if you can find one that is! ...

Handbag Review: Gold Fjord Birkin 35cm worn by Anne Hathaway

Handbag Review: Gold Fjord Birkin 35cm worn by Anne Hathaway

We bought this bag from a British businessman, and examined it in the dimly lit Starbucks on London’s Holland Park Avenue – these were the early days before our Mayfair showroom.  I opened the box and looked at the bag, accepting his word that it was brand spanking new, but once we had bought it and received the receipt from Hermes it was clear the bag was already 3 years old. Oh the silly novices that we were!! It had not, however been worn and was the first officially pre-loved bag we had ever bought. So a great bag with which to start our reviews. And also, and we are excited about this: this bag was used by Anne Hathaway when filming the new “Dirty Rotten Scroundrels” in Autumn 2017. It has become one of my favourite Birkins: because the...

Looking forward to Spring

Looking forward to Spring

Why not cheer yourselves up on these long winter days with thoughts of new bags and new colours for next season?   Hermes have introduced a lovely soft yellow shade called Ambre and another fabulous pink – Magnolia – alongside the re-issue of a couple of old favourites and some more recent colours.  As ever blue features heavily in the palette with Bleu Brighton, Celeste, Azur, Bleu Saphir and Bleu de Malte all making a reappearance, whilst Toffee and Cardamome join Ambre. Other colours available include the newer Rose Pourpre & Gris Asphalte, Rouge Casaque, Capucine and Beton so there’s plenty to choose from, although sadly there are no greens this time. We have been unable to source a reliable image for Ambre (as soon as we find one...

A piece of Hollywood history

A piece of Hollywood history

Christie’s Paris have recently held one of their renowned Handbag & Accessories Auctions and the results show that the allure of the Hermes bag has not diminished one bit, even in these more uncertain economic times.  If you buy an Hermes bag, not only are you making a sound financial investment but you also possess an item that is both beautiful and usable – what’s not to like? The Times and other newspapers picked up on the sale, mostly due to the inclusion of a Mini Kelly once worn by none other than Hollywood legend, Elizabeth Taylor.  Made in 1991, the Yellow Mini Kelly in Courchevel leather with Gold Hardware was originally sold in the “Collection of Elizabeth Taylor” sale in New York in December 2011 for $20,000.  This...

Barenia Faubourg

Barenia Faubourg

It’s not often that Hermes treats us to a new leather so we’re thrilled to see that they have refreshed the much loved Barenia and launched it as Barenia Faubourg for this Autumn and Winter – and hopefully beyond. Barenia Faubourg still carries the delicious smell of the original Barenia, and Hermes assure us that it will develop the same patina as before, thank goodness.  The main difference is that the leather has more of a grain to it and looks similar to Togo and Taurillon Clemence – the scratch resistant properties of Barenia are said to have been retained too so as far as we can see there’s no reason not to love Barenia Faubourg! Lilac Blue London have a 35cm Birkin in Fauve Barenia Faubourg with Palladium Hardware –...

Red is the Colour!

Red is the Colour!

Reading the fashion pages in the newspaper at the weekend, it seems that red is all the rage this autumn. Vogue feature red in their Autumn/Winter 2017 Trend Guide so it must be true! The favoured shade appears to be scarlet but if that’s a bit too much for you then don’t worry, Hermes will have the right one – take a look at our Red Colour Swatch page for inspiration and guidance.
